Asked by Football Insider if Wijnaldum was Liverpool’s unsung hero, Mills said: “Yeah, I think he’s started to become really important in that midfield area.
“He’s got a lot of quality, I think we know that and we’ve seen that.
“When he was first bought at Liverpool, for £25million, people were thinking: ‘Ooh, that’s quite a lot.’
“We haven’t really seen the best of him at Newcastle, he did okay at times but seems quite a lot of money, we’re not quite sure.’
Wijnaldum was key as Liverpool won the Champions League last season and finished second in the Premier League.

And the Dutch star has got his eyes on more success this campaign.
“What happened in the past is always in the past,” he said.
“We created great memories for ourselves but it is not something we should think about.
“Of course it gives us confidence if you are in a situation like that but it is a totally different Champions League campaign: different games, different situations, different teams.
“We just have to make sure we are ready and not think about last season.
“That is a great memory but we have to look forward to making it even greater and reach the final again. Not looking back but looking forward.”
