Rangers boss Steven Gerrard slammed by former Liverpool team-mate ahead of Aberdeen clash
It’s fair to say that El-Hadji Diouf is not a fan of the Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
Liverpool: Gerrard responds to comments he will replace Klopp
El-Hadji Diouf has hit out at Rangers boss Steven Gerrard for his behaviour during that time at Liverpool.
Ex-Senegal international Diouf played for the club between 2002 and 2005, scoring three goals in 55 league outings.
The 38-year-old also had a spell at Ibrox in 2011, but failed to make a good impression on the fans.
"When people say I don't like Gerrard, I laugh, because if I tell you the things he used to say about me to the guys, you wouldn't be able to write it," Diouf told FourFourTwo.
"For me, it's all in the past, but I'm not a hypocrite - I know they don't like me, so I also don't like them.
"Look, I say this and they get offended but let's be honest: Gerrard has won nothing for his country.
"I took my country to the World Cup, and that singular act cannot be quantified.
"I'm happy for my boy, Sadio (Mane), and I'm happy Liverpool is going well now, but on a personal level I'd rather I hadn't played there."
Although Diouf is not interested in returning to Anfield anytime soon, Gerrard has been force to distance himself from claims that he will replace Jurgen Klopp in the future.
The German mentioned Gerrard when he was asked who might replace him, and the Rangers manager has put off any talk surrounding the near future.
"I was surprised and flattered at the same time," Gerrard responded.
"But when you read the quote really carefully, like I have, it said, 'if I get sacked tomorrow' he thinks Steven Gerrard should be the next Liverpool manager.
"Jurgen Klopp's not getting sacked tomorrow. I don't want him to get sacked tomorrow. He's doing a fantastic job.
"I'm a Liverpool fan. I'm sure every Liverpool fan on the planet endorses what I'm saying here.
"We want him to stay for many, many years and bring as much success to our club as possible.
"But yeah, it was very flattering at the same time."
