The former Manchester United striker says he could tell early in the Premier League clash that Crystal Palace had a chance of claiming all three points.
Man United vs Crystal Palace: Solskjaer reacts to 2-1 loss
Michael Owen admits Manchester United losing at home to Crystal Palace was not a surprise.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season at the hands of Palace on Saturday.
Jordan Ayew gave the visitors the lead at Old Trafford in the first half but Daniel James thought he had won United a point with a fine effort in the closing stages.
However, Palace were not done, and Patrick van Aanholt struck deep into stoppage time to secure a famous 2-1 win for the Eagles.
After 10 minutes I said ‘I don’t fancy Manchester United today’
But while analysing the game afterwards, Owen admitted he could see early on United were going to struggle.
“Michael, is it fair to say you weren’t that surprised that Palace picked up all three points today?” Premier League Productions presenter Manish Bhasin asked Owen.
Owen said he has not been convinced about United ever since legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
He replied: “Well, I was watching the game with you and after 10 minutes I said ‘I don’t fancy Manchester United today’.
“They’ve been like this for a long time now, haven’t they. Have they convinced for, what, since Sir Alex Ferguson retired basically?
“Have they ever really gone on a run, apart from actually at the end of last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer? And then everything sort of fell to pieces again.
“But have they ever convinced anyone in the last sort of six, seven, eight, nine years?

“I’m not sure they have and I think they’ve got results like this in them.
“Of course they’re a good team, of course they’ve for great players.
“But they don’t play like a great team on a consistent basis, which is why, yes it’s a surprise result, but is it a really surprising result? I didn’t think so.”
