The chat Ashley Cole thinks Chelsea boss Frank Lampard and Roman Abramovich will have had
CHELSEA legend Ashley Cole reckons there will have been a conversation between Frank Lampard and Roman Abramovich, reassuring the head coach over his future.
Lampard was appointed the new Chelsea head coach in the summer, replacing Maurizio Sarri.
After leaving Championship side Derby County, Lampard was unable to bring in new signings in the transfer market due to the Blues’ transfer ban.
Cole believes that has made Lampard’s job the toughest for any manager since Abramovich took control of Chelsea in 2003.
Chelsea have failed to win in their first three games under Lampard, the latest being a 1-1 draw at home to Leicester City on Sunday.
I think if you’ve got to give credit to Frank for taking the job because it’s not an easy job
But Cole believes there will have been a conversation between Lampard and the club’s hierarchy that he will be given more leeway than previous Stamford Bridge bosses, due to the transfer situation.
“Yeah [it is the toughest job under Abramovich], I agree,” Cole said on Sky Sports.
“I think if you said to Frank now ‘you can keep this team or add players, and you can buy who you want’, he’s going to add a lot of players.
“So yes, it is the hardest job.
“But as we keep going back to, I think whether they’ve had a conversation, Frank and Roman and the people behind the scenes, in terms of saying: ‘You will have time, try ride through this period, try establish some young players and then we’ll see where we are with the ban and then you can add quality’.
“I think if you’ve got to give credit to Frank for taking the job because it’s not an easy job.
“He done such a good job at Derby last season.
“To take this job, there’s big pressure.
“The pressure you’re going to put on yourself.
“Frank needs all these players sharp now because yes it’s two games in, but he’s already getting judged.
“So he’s going to have to be motivating these guys in a different way to say ‘hey, you better hurry up and start to get fit, because I need you’.”
