Chelsea legend Ashley Cole picks out one star who can be ‘world class’ for Frank Lampard
CHELSEA legend Ashley Cole has revealed which member of Frank Lampard’s squad could become “world class”, after the Blues drew 1-1 with Leicester City at Stamford Bridge.
Mason Mount is a ‘top player’ claims Joe Cole
Chelsea hero Cole thinks Mason Mount could become a world class midfielder.
Just a few adjustments to his game could help him to progress to the next level of his career, said the former England international.
Mount scored Chelsea’s only goal of the match during their 1-1 draw with Leicester at Stamford Bridge.
He pressed high on the Foxes defence, sneaking behind Wilfred Ndidi, nicking the ball from him, and then powering the ball past Kasper Schmeichel with a low drive.
He’s got a good head on his shoulders and he wants to improve all the time
Cole specifically praised Mount after the game, claiming the 20-year-old has a terrific range of passing.
“Mount is very mature for his age,” Cole told Sky Sports. “He’s got a good head on his shoulders and he wants to improve all the time and he will do because he’s willing to listen.
“He can play anywhere in the midfield, right, left, holding because his range of passing is so good.
“He needs to know when to slow the game down, everything doesn’t have to be 100mph.
“He can potentially be world class but he obviously has a lot to learn.”
Mount first started his career at Chelsea in 2005, when he was just six years old.
He made his Stamford Bridge debut against Leicester, and scored his first ever goal for the Blues.
The England Under-21 star said it was his dream to score his first goal for Chelsea.
Mount said: “Coming through the academy, you dream of scoring your first goal and making your home debut – luckily I got both in the same day.
“The manager wants us to press and I got on the wrong side of Ndidi. He didn’t see me coming and I made the most of it.
“I haven’t watched the goal back but I lost my feet as I won the tackle but there was only one thing on my mind.
“As a team our performance overall – there are things we need to work on.”
