Liverpool fans warned Alisson injury will end title hope - ‘It doesn’t look good’
LIVERPOOL will be out of the Premier League title race if goalkeeper Alisson is out for as much as six weeks.
That is the opinion of former Manchester United and England midfielder Owen Hargreaves.
Alisson injured his calf in the opening day Premier League win over Norwich last Friday.
The club have confirmed the Brazilian will be out “for the next few weeks” but did not put a specific timescale on his recovery.
Hargreaves believes a six-week layoff for Alisson would have a huge impact and end Liverpool’s hopes of winning their first Premier League title.
If he’s out for six weeks that could change the title race, or will change the title race
He admits the difference in quality between Alisson and Liverpool's backup stopper Adrian is so vast that it would hand the initiative to reigning champions Manchester City.
“That’s not a good one, that injury what happened,” Hargreaves told Premier League Productions.
“That’s going to take some time [to heal].
“He just goes to kick it and he just feels it.
“He looks back and he thinks somebody’s thrown something from the crowd, it’s just popped. It doesn’t look good.
“If he’s out for six weeks that could change the title race, or will change the title race.
“It looks [like] a muscle injury and I just hope it’s three weeks rather than six.
“If it’s three weeks they’re still in the title race.
“I think at six that could change the title race, he’s that good.
“There’s good goalkeepers and there’s great ones.
“He’s great and he keeps you in a game and he’s a good shot-stopper.
“I don’t think he gets enough credit for the saves that he makes and his feet are exceptional as well.”
