David Luiz joining Arsenal from Chelsea is good news for three players - Paul Merson
ARSENAL’s forwards are going to benefit from David Luiz’s arrival at the club from Chelsea.
David Luiz revealed as NEWEST Arsenal signing
That is the opinion of Chelsea fan and former Arsenal star Paul Merson.
Luiz joined the Gunners from their London rivals on transfer deadline day for £8million.
The Brazilian will fill the hole left by Laurent Koscielny, who left Arsenal earlier in the week for Bordeaux.
But it is his passing ability that Merson believes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and fellow new signing Nicolas Pepe will benefit from.
You’ve got the lad Pepe, Aubameyang, Lacazette - Luiz can find a pass
“You’ve got the lad Pepe, Aubameyang, Lacazette - [Luiz] can find a pass,” Merson said on Soccer Saturday.
“He’s as good as anybody with a diagonal ball, he’s got the John Terry pass in him, diagonal balls across the pitch.
“[Arsenal] needed another player. This lad is a proven winner, he is an absolute proven winner. He wins things.”
But Merson is concerned for Chelsea after the sale of Luiz.
The 32-year-old made 50 appearances last season and Merson wonders if the likes of Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma are good enough to step into his shoes.
“[Luiz] played every game virtually last season for Chelsea, he played all the time,” the pundit continued.
“He was their go-to centre-half, he played.
“This transfer blows my mind more than any other transfer this window.
David Luiz is good business for Arsenal says Gianfranco Zola
“You’re selling someone, who played every week for you, to a team that you’re playing against this season to get in the Champions League.
“It’s a big gamble, big gamble.
“Christensen never played last season, he never played.
“Zouma played at Everton - playing at Everton and playing at Chelsea is chalk and cheese.”
Luiz started on the bench for Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Newcastle United on Sunday.
