Celtic boss Neil Lennon delivers transfer update after Callum McGregor approach
CELTIC boss Neil Lennon has revealed that the club swiftly rejected an approach to sign Callum McGregor from an unnamed club this summer.
Celtic: Neil Lennon provides update on Callum McGregor
Celtic fans waved goodbye to fan favourite Kieran Tierney on Thursday as Arsenal finally made a transfer breakthrough for the Scotland international.
However, the chances of McGregor following him out the door are very slim after Lennon outlined the club’s stance on Friday.
He said: ”We are not interested in selling any of our better players now.
"It's well documented that there was interest in Callum.
"It was just an approach, no bid.
“That's over now and we will settle him down.
"He is playing as well as he has ever done and hopefully he will again have another fantastic season as he has done the last couple."
In terms of future incoming deals, the former Bolton boss has agreed that the £25million they received from Tierney will free their spending in future windows.
He added: ”It makes things a little bit easier in terms of maybe pushing the boat out a little bit more but we're not going to break transfer records and spend silly money.
"We have targets in mind and we are working away on that sooner or later.
“We are looking at maybe two or three positions.
"We also maybe need to move a few players on to get them playing or make room in the squad.
“Until we do that, we may not look to bring anyone in just yet."
Celtic face Motherwell in their second Premiership fixture of the season on Saturday, after a stunning 7-0 win over St. Johnstone last time out.
