Frank Lampard reveals truth behind David Luiz 'rows' after star left Chelsea for Arsenal
CHELSEA boss Frank Lampard has opened up about his relationship with David Luiz after the player’s shock transfer to Arsenal.
Chelsea: Lampard discusses Luiz's transfer to Arsenal
Chelsea decided to part ways with the experienced Brazilian on deadline day this summer as the club prepare for the start of the new Premier League season.
The Blues had a quiet window in terms of incoming deals but have welcomed Christian Pulisic and several young prospects to the fold, with Lampard tasked with securing a top four finish.
After news emerged of Luiz’ desire to join Arsenal, rumours swirled of a rift between the defender and his former team-mate/new boss, which Lampard has since quashed.
He revealed: “We had some conversations over the last week, honest ones, and the conclusion was that he should move on.
“It’s a position that I have a lot of competition.
“Everyone has to understand that.
“He has moved on and we wish him the absolute best, because he has been a big part of our history.
“There wasn’t any strike. No fall-outs, just honest conversations.
“As a player I want that as a manager, and I think I got that from David.
“Him not training was a decision I made as I felt that was best at the time.”
Chelsea take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday in a highly-anticipated clash (4.30pm).
Lampard is hoping to get off to a perfect start in his first season as a top-flight boss, and he is feeling confident.
He added: “We have had a good pre-season, but now the real stuff is coming.
“You can feel it in the air. I am excited and the players are excited, and now we have to deliver.
“With the ban it’s been very easy to write off this squad, but I am not writing it off.
“We are hungry to try and prove to everybody we will be up there this year. I believe in this squad.”
