Everton plot new Man Utd raid after Chris Smalling snub with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sell
EVERTON are reportedly debating a move for Manchester United ace Marcos Rojo after having a loan bid rejected by the Red Devils for Chris Smalling.
Everton told they could not afford Rojo's salary says Castles
Everton are keen to strengthen their defence and have been linked with a number of stars.
The Toffees have failed to lure Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori as well as Smalling.
But, with the transfer window slamming shut at 5pm today, Everton boss Marco Silva is still keen to improve his squad.
And the Daily Mail claim that Marcos Rojo is back in Silva’s sights having been a target last summer.
TRANSFER NEWS LIVE: LATEST DEADLINE DAY DEALS
It’s reported that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is willing to sell Rojo after bringing in Harry Maguire.
It could be a busy deadline day for Everton, who open their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Toffees have also been linked with a move for Wilfried Zaha and Steven Bergwijn.
Moves for Moise Kean and Djibril Sidibe have been completed over the past few days.
But Everton boss Silva recently admitted he would need to be busy in the final days of the window.
“It should be if you really want to be competitive and to do better than last season,” he said.
“Because at the end of the day, it is what we want to do: do better than last season.
“We are looking at other positions too.
“So it is clear we should put more quality and competition inside.”
As well as the potential departure of Rojo, Solskjaer could have a busy day at United.
Romelu Lukaku is on the verge of completing a deal to join Inter Milan.
That may mean that Solskjaer is in the market for a replacement with Bruno Fernandes and Paulo Dybala both linked with moves to the Red Devils.
