Tottenham boss Pochettino told to do one thing to get best out of ‘unbelievable’ Sessegnon
TOTTENHAM boss Mauricio Pochettino should play potential signing Ryan Sessegnon in the wing-back position in order to unlock his “unbelievable” talent.
Ryan Sessegnon: Fulham will sell for right fee says expert
That’s the view of former Tottenham striker Darren Bent.
Sessegnon has been linked with a move away from Fulham since last season when his price-tag was said to be as high as £50million.
But after an average season for Fulham in which the club were relegated from the Premier League, the youngster’s stock has slightly fallen.
Pochettino is still reportedly keen on bringing Sessegnon to north London, but a deal hasn’t been struck as of yet.
The transfer window closes next Thursday, meaning that Spurs and Fulham have just days to sort out a transfer that will see Sessegnon become Tottenham’s third signing of the window.
Express Sport understands Spurs are confident of doing a £25m deal before the deadline.
And Bent, who played for Spurs for two years, believes the signing is inevitable and says Sessegnon should be played in a wing-back role rather than as a left-back or a left-sided forward.
“It’s a very good deal for Tottenham if they can do it, especially with the Danny Rose situation,” Bent told Football Insider.
“Getting him in might just soften the blow if they lose Rose.
“It would be brilliant for Sessegnon if he can get that move and great for Tottenham as well, as he’s an unbelievable talent.
“I thought he did reasonably well for Fulham last season considering they got relegated.
“I don’t think he’s an out-and-out defender.
“I know he can play left wing, but I’d like to see him at wing-back, that’s where I think his best position is.”
Ryan Sessegnon shows off skills during Fulham training
Spurs have already broken their transfer fee record this summer by signing Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon for £55m.
They’ve also been linked with a move for Real Betis star Giovani Lo Celso, but have reportedly had a £53m bid rejected.
Pochettino is also said to be after Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes, who is being hotly pursued by Manchester United as well.
