Inter Milan to replace Icardi with Lukaku claims expert
Inter boss Antonio Conte has been very keen to land Lukaku and expressed his frustrations last week at the Serie A giants’ delay to seal the United star’s coveted signature.
According to the Daily Mirror, the club’s hierarchy held a meeting in China that boosted Conte’s hopes as a fresh and improved bid could follow in order to bring the Belgium international to the San Siro.
Inter director Beppe Marotta said: “It’s all very positive.
“It’s good to feel a little bit of pressure.
It’s all very positive
“You can see Conte’s work, we are very happy.
“There’s more to be done, but there is optimism.”
Manchester United insist on their £80m valuation for Lukaku two years after buying him for £75m from Everton.
Inter, though, have yet to come close to the Red Devils’ asking price while they are also facing the prospect of losing star striker Mauro Icardi in the summer.
Conte hoped to have Lukaku in the team for last weekend’s International Champions Cup clash against United in Singapore.
The Premier League giants defeated the Nerazzurri 1-0 with a goal by Mason Greenwood.
The Inter boss is now hoping that the club hierarchy will soon lodge an improved bid for his top target.
Lukaku has scored a total of 42 goals in 96 appearances for the Manchester giants ever since his arrival in 2017.
The 26-year-old ace, however, hasn’t shown a lot of consistency and could be on his way out of Old Trafford.
The Belgian scored 12 goals in 32 matches last season in the Premier League.
