Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer delivers transfer update as Harry Maguire saga continues
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted his transfer targets haven’t changed, despite the club’s pursuit of Harry Maguire hitting the rocks.
Manchester United have made two signings so far this summer, bringing in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James from Crystal Palace and Swansea City respectively for a combined fee of £68million.
Solskjaer is keen to bring in two more new faces to Old Trafford before the transfer window closes on August 8.
Top of his list is Maguire, who the Red Devils have already had a bid of £70m rejected for.
Leicester are demanding at least £80million for their prized asset, who is reportedly keen on leaving the King Power Stadium this summer.
We can't just jump on a different path if when you hit a hurdle
Solskjaer has been left frustrated with United’s prolonged pursuit of the England international but isn’t giving up on signing him just yet.
"It will take time for any player to adjust to Man United," the Norwegian said. "Apart from me, it took me six minutes in the first game (against Blackburn)!
"I'm very happy with the two you've mentioned, we've got to be patient, because it's a long haul and it's very important we get the right ones in, we can't just jump on a different path if when you hit a hurdle.
"My feelings are I've not had a frustrated feeling at all."
Leicester are keen to retain Maguire’s services and Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers has warned United they’re not in a position where they need to sell their talismanic defender.
“The club is in a great state of health because there’s no pressure to sell any player,” Rodgers said following the pre-season friendly win over Cambridge United on Tuesday evening.
“And if a player does leave Leicester City, the valuation will have to be met. We have a top-level player, looked at by top-level clubs. I respect that because I understand why they would, but there’s been no offer near to our valuation that would even make us have a look.
“How he has handled it has been fantastic. Harry has never wavered. If there’s a valuation met that pleases the ownership, then there’s a decision to be made for the player.”
