Man Utd boss Solskjaer makes Lukaku replacement decision: Liverpool to be rivalled
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has two possible replacements lined up for Romelu Lukaku, it has been claimed.
Man United: Lukaku arrives for Leeds game amid transfer talk
The Red Devils look set to lose their striker with the Belgian wanting to leave Old Trafford.
Inter Milan are reportedly ready to offer £60million with a further £15m in add-ons.
Manchester United want £80m for Lukaku but with time running out they could accept in order to get a replacement through the door.
The Evening Standard claim Solskjaer has two names on his wish list to take the place of the former Everton striker.
Lille star Nicolas Pepe and Lyon forward Moussa Dembele are the duo United are looking at.
The former has been linked with Liverpool after impressing last season for the French outfit in netting 23 times.
United’s current first-choice striker is Marcus Rashford.
And with the unproven Mason Greenwood as the only out-and-out forward other than the England international, the Red Devils will be keen to replace Lukaku if he exits.
That’s despite the 17-year-old impressing in the 4-0 pre-season win over Leeds yesterday.
Solskjaer was so impressed with Greenwood’s performance that he thinks he could feature in the Premier League opener against Chelsea.
“He’s got a chance to start that one, definitely,” he explained.
“He’s more than capable. He’ll always be there in and around the box, creating chances, and I won’t say that’s not a possibility.
“No, it’s a good possibility if he keeps going as he does.
“It’s difficult to keep players out who perform well.”
Moussa Dembele shows off footwork skills ahead of U21 match
Solskjaer believes Greenwood will become a top player for United in the coming years.
He said: “He’s just a natural. When he takes a penalty with his right, then takes a penalty with his left, free-kicks with his left, free-kicks with his right.
“He is almost what you’d call 50-50, maybe 51-49 left-footed. You can see we’ve got a talented boy there and he’s every opportunity to make it as a Manchester United player.
“Of course, it’s also going to be about luck. He must stay clear of injuries, be professional and I’m sure he’s going to grab his chance. Everything is there for him.”
