Aaron Wan-Bissaka not enough for Man Utd to finish above Chelsea and Tottenham - Darke
MANCHESTER UNITED need plenty more signings after Aaron Wan-Bissaka to challenge for a top-four spot next season.
That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundit and Premier League commentator Ian Darke.
Wan-Bissaka joined Manchester United from Crystal Palace on Saturday for £50million.
The 21-year-old is more likely to be a regular in the United first team than their other signing in Daniel James from Swansea.
Darke believes Wan-Bissaka does solve the problems United have had on the right side of defence in recent seasons.
Plenty more business needs to be done by United because they’re miles off it at the moment
However, he reckons there needs to be a few more faces through the door at least before they can think of Champions League qualification.
United finished sixth last season, off the pace of fifth-place Arsenal, five points behind Tottenham in fourth and five adrift of Chelsea in third.
“I think [Wan-Bissaka] will solve Manchester United’s problem at right-back but they need to do a whole lot more,” Darke said.
“We don’t know what’s going to go on with [Paul] Pogba, we don’t know what’s going to go on with [Romelu] Lukaku.
“Plenty more business needs to be done by United because they’re miles off it at the moment.
“[United won't be] that near [to the top four with Wan-Bissaka and James], to be honest with you.
“I think they need to tighten up the defence.
“They’ve signed Marcus Rashford incidentally to a new contract until 2023, so that’s some more good news for Manchester United.
“I think you’re going to have to judge United, not now, but nearer the transfer deadline.
“Let’s see how much business they can do remembering they don’t have the appeal of Champions League football to attract the marquee names.”
