How Arsenal, Tottenham or Man City could benefit from not signing Matthijs de Ligt
MATTHIJS DE LIGT joining Paris Saint-Germain could end up benefitting one of several English clubs in the transfer market.
That's according to France Football.
The Ajax captain has reportedly turned down a move to Barcelona despite the two clubs agreeing a fee, according to reports in Spain.
With the young Dutchman expected to leave Ajax this summer, a move to PSG could now be more likely.
Barcelona have already secured the services of Frenkie De Jong and it was rumoured De Ligt could follow his former team-mate to Spain, but the latest reports suggest PSG are now the front-runners for his signature .
Spanish newspaper AS reports an offer of €75million (£67m) has been rejected by the player's agent, Mino Raiola.
Arsenal, Tottenham or Manchester City could now benefit if De Ligt favours a move to the French capital, instead of Spain.
That is because the arrival of the teenager at PSG could see Presnel Kimpembe's playing time considerably reduced at the club.
The 23-year-old defender has drawn comparisons of a playing style similar to team-mate Thiago Silva and is regarded highly among several Premier League sides.
France Football report that Kimpembe would consider his future is De Ligt joined the Ligue 1 club and that he could be available for just €45m (£40m), which would no doubt make the defender an attractive option to English teams.
Despite his young age Kimpembe has already already established himself at PSG and is also a quadruple winner with the club.
The defender has extensive Champions League experience, having participated in three campaigns and has also broken into Didier Deschamps’ France team.
Arsenal have already reportedly contacted Kimpembe’s dad over a possible transfer, with French news-site SoccerLink reporting the Gunners "came into contact with the player's father to find out if a transfer is possible".
If PSG do give the green light for Kimpembe to leave, Arsenal can expect to battle it out with serval clubs for the player’s signature.
