Chelsea: Melchiot backs Frank Lampard to replace Sarri
Lampard is set to replace Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge once the Italian seals his move to Juventus in the coming weeks.
The former Blues midfielder has just finished his first season in management, with Derby falling at the last hurdle in their quest for promotion to the Premier League.
Their 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa at Wembley in the play-off final consigned them to Championship football for another year.
But despite failing to secure promotion, Lampard has received plenty of plaudits throughout the campaign for his brand of attacking football.
More importantly, however, Lampard is still extremely popular with fans at Stamford Bridge with the 40-year-old believed to be the first-choice target at Chelsea.
Part of Sarri’s downfall at Chelsea came as a result of his unpopularity with the fanbase, with some supporters chanting “f**k Sarri-ball” at multiple points throughout the season amid frustration over the manager's way of playing.
And with Lampard set to be Chelsea’s first choice when it comes to a replacement, Pride Park bosses have set their sights on Bowyer as their prime target.
Bowyer has enjoyed a successful spell as Charlton manager in his first year in management.

Having taken over in September of last year, he guided the Addicks to the Championship through the League One play-offs.
Despite his Wembley heroics, his contract has still not been extended at The Valley, leading to uncertainty around his future.
Bowyer told BBC Sport after the play-off final win over Sunderland that he wanted to get his situation sorted sooner rather than later.
“The owner rang me [on Saturday] to wish us luck and then he said we will speak very soon," Bowyer said.
