Tottenham star Harry Kane breaks silence after Liverpool defeat with emotional promise
TOTTENHAM striker Harry Kane has promised fans that Spurs will come back stronger next season after their disappointing Champions League final defeat.
Champions League: Kane consoled by Henderson following loss
Tottenham slipped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Saturday as the Reds claimed a sixth major European title.
Mauricio Pochettino missed out on a golden opportunity to win his first trophy as a professional boss, as Spurs failed to threaten their Premier League rivals in Madrid.
The Argentine boss made the bold decision to start Harry Kane at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium after he missed the end of the season after suffering an ankle injury in their Champions League quarter-final first leg win over Manchester City in early April.
Kane, 25, has promised fans that their dramatic journey to the final of Europe’s premier competition was not a fluke and urged his team-mates to come back even stronger next season.
"Gutted we couldn’t get the job done last night,” Kane tweeted on Sunday after returning to the UK.
“We’ll learn from it and come back stronger next year.
Thanks to our fans for your unbelievable support home and away this season.
“You’ve been incredible. #COYS.”
Kane failed to make an impact in Spain despite playing the full 90 minutes.
Former Premier League bosses Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger both felt that Kane failed to perform because he wasn’t ready to start a match after his recent injury lay-off.
Wenger told beIN Sports: “We spoke a lot about Kane [before the match].
“He doesn’t look ready and overall only Son [Heung-min] looked dangerous, especially going in behind [Trent] Alexander-Arnold.”

Mourinho, who won the competition with both Porto and Inter Milan, agreed with his former rival Wenger, and described Kane as ‘hidden’.
“The reality is that Tottenham had 61 per cent of ball possession but had zero shots on target,” Mourinho said.
“They missed lots of passes, they couldn’t link play.
“Harry Kane was hidden all the time.”
