Liverpool star Mo Salah admits he ‘sacrificed’ a lot to accomplish Champions League dream
LIVERPOOL star Mohamed Salah scored the first goal for his side as they beat Tottenham 2-0 in the Champions League final.
Champions League: Salah reacts to title victory over Spurs
Mohamed Salah was playing in his second Champions League final in a row and didn’t hide his delight with the team performance on display to ensure they came away with the victory.
The 26-year-old Egypt international opened the Reds account with a penalty two minutes into the game, when Spurs midfielder Moussa Sissoko was deemed to have committed a handball in the box.
With a one-goal lead Liverpool were happy to sit back and try and catch Tottenham on the counter attack, but the game failed to reach the heights of the dramatic semi-finals which both teams were involved in.
Salah was glad to play the full 90 minutes after having his previous Champions League final cut short last season when a clash with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos ended his involvement in the clash in Kiev.
I have sacrificed a lot in my life for my football career
When asked if securing Liverpool’s their sixth European Cup was a dream come true, Salah said: "I have sacrificed a lot in my life for my football career.
“Being Egyptian and getting to this level in football is something incredible to me."
Spurs failed to create many clear cut chances over the course of the game despite Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino taking a gamble on playing Harry Kane.
The England striker had not played a game since April because of an ankle injury.
Champions League: Jamie Carragher reacts to Salah goal
Late in the game Liverpool punished Spurs after a poor clearance attempt, when substitute Divock Origi drilled in an effort into the bottom corner in the 87th minute and in the process pretty much killed off any chance of Spurs mustering a comeback.
"Everyone is happy," Salah added.
"Honestly, I don't know what to say, but I'm just happy now.
"To win a final, I'm very glad to play a second final in a row and play 90 minutes, finally.
Salah admitted there was no one on the pitch at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium who produced a magnificent performance but emphasised the importance of the team pulling together to find the victory.
Champions League: Klopp reacts to Liverpool winning the title
"There has not been no great individual performance," he added.
”We have played as a team and we have all been amazing."
And Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also echoed how impressed he was with the team performance in Madrid, as victory gave him his first trophy since he arrived in Anfield back in 2015.
"Did you ever see a team like this, fighting with no fuel in the tank?” Klopp said.
“I am so happy for the boys, all these people and my family. They suffer for me, they deserve it more than anybody.”
