Rangers team news: Predicted 4-1-4-1 for Old Firm clash, Morelos to start?
RANGERS take on Celtic later today in the third Old Firm derby of the season. But what starting XI will Steven Gerrard go with?
The last time the two sides played, tempers more than flared up as Alfredo Morelos was sent off for an elbow on Scott Brown.
Rangers lost the game late on that day 2-1 thanks to James Forrest’s calm finish.
A few games later and Morelos is now back from his suspension, but that might not be enough for Gerrard to thrust the Colombian straight back into the starting lineup.
Morelos was eligible for Rangers’ win over Hibernian last week but Gerrard started former England team-mate Jermain Defoe instead.
Defoe scored the winner and has notched on two other occasions, providing three more assists, since Morelos has been out of action.
And Gerrard may decide that he doesn’t want to risk putting Morelos into the Celtic fire once again.
Elsewhere on the team sheet, goalkeeper Allan McGregor is suspended after kicking out at Marc McNulty in the win over Hibs.
Wes Foderingham will likely come in to deputise while defenders Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, James Tavernier and Jon Flanagan are expected to start.
Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield and Ryan Kent will also likely remain in the starting line-up as Gerrard’s side look to put a dampener on Celtic’s title celebrations.
Gerrard spoke about Rangers’ last clash with Celtic, noting that there were a lot of positive despite the result.
“The last time we played at Parkhead, from half-time onwards and even with 10 men, the players were excellent,” he said.
“They did everything they could in that 45 minutes to take something from the game."
