Man Utd and Huddersfield draw shows FIVE players simply HAVE to leave in summer
MANCHESTER UNITED’s Premier League draw with Huddersfield showed five players who HAVE to leave Old Trafford this summer - regardless of their contract situation.
Man United: Solskjaer reveals contact with 'many agents'
Manchester United slipped to a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield, ending their hopes of playing in the Champions League next season.
The Red Devils went into the game knowing only a win would do and, when Scott McTominay put them in front, the visitors were daring to dream again of a top four finish.
Manchester United were pegged back by Isaac Mbenza, however, and will now be strutting their stuff in the Europa League next season.
Express Sport looks at five players who have to leave the club in the wake of another disastrous result.
Alexis Sanchez
When Manchester United signed Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, hopes were high that the Chile international would provide an added edge to their attack.
But the 29-year-old looks shot and the sight of him hobbling off should mean that is the last time he is seen in a red shirt.
Ashley Young
Back in the day, United were blessed with good right-backs. Gary Neville, John O’Shea and Wes Brown were all capable.
But Young is not. He is past his best and the sooner the Red Devils ship him on, the better.
Nemanja Matic
It is hard to imagine a more static player in the Premier League.
Seriously, Nemanja Matic is so slow he looks as if he is running wearing the strongest, heaviest boots in the world. United once had pace and dynamism in midfield and the Serbia international offers neither. Time to get rid.
Paul Pogba
Look, Paul Pogba is world class. That’s a fact.
But his heart isn’t in it. With United needing a late goal, the World Cup winner looked lethargic and as if he could do with being anywhere else. If Real Madrid come in with a huge bid, it’s time to sell.
David De Gea
David De Gea has been a great servant to United. But these errors are happening too much.
There came a time where the United star was their most-vital player but, like Pogba, he doesn’t appear focused. With his contract expiring in 2020, it’s time to move on and look elsewhere. Quit, while you’re ahead.
What Man Utd draw means
Manchester United will now be playing in the Europa League next season.
Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Watford has ended the Red Devils’ hopes of Champions League football. Based on this showing, that’s probably for the best.
