David Moyes names Manchester United star who will NOT be happy with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper Sergio Romero will be questioning his role in the squad if David de Gea continues to keep his place in the team.
Man Utd: David de Gea could be DROPPED says Moyes
That is according to former Manchester United manager David Moyes.
De Gea has had a wretched few weeks in goal for the Red Devils, committing a series of high-profile mistakes.
There were calls for the Spaniard to be left out of the starting XI for the vital clash in the race for the top four against Chelsea on Sunday.
However, De Gea played and was guilty of an error leading up the the Blues’ goal in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, spilling Antonio Rudiger's long-range shot.
If you don't get the opportunity to put yourself in the team I am saying to myself, 'well, what is the point in having a number two then?'
Moyes says Romero will be wondering what has to happen for him to get a chance in the Premier League.
And the Scot reckons it would send a good message to the rest of the squad if manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer dropped De Gea for the remaining two matches of the season.
"When you have a number two who is sitting on the bench and you are making mistakes, if you don't get the opportunity to put yourself in the team I am saying to myself, 'well, what is the point in having a number two then? Because this guy can make as many mistakes [as he is]’,” Moyes said on talkSPORT.
“The other thing with Manchester United, you are there to win, play well, you are paid very well, you are at the top club.
“You are not there to make mistakes.
"David de Gea is the best goalkeeper and has been for years.
“But we have all been players, we make mistakes, and quite often we are left out the team.
“David de Gea has been Manchester United’s best player for the last few years.
“He’s won their player of the year on several occasions, so I don’t think anybody’s questioned David de Gea.
“I think on this situation there is different ways to look at it.
“Ole will decide himself, he’ll know what’s best.
“But I think Manchester United will win their last two games of the season and because of that you can say ‘well it would be easy enough to put him in if we choose to do so’.
“But also, if you want to say ‘no, you’ve got to play well to get into the Manchester United team’, well that would make me think well, even showing the rest of the squad if you don’t play well you’re going to be left out’.”
