Lionel Messi: Barcelona star’s INCREDIBLE Champions League record vs Premier League clubs
LIONEL MESSI will be in action against Liverpool in the Champions League as the Barcelona star looks to add to his impressive scoring record against Premier League clubs.
Barcelona: Messi scores winning goal against Levante
Lionel Messi has the opportunity to score against a sixth different English opponent in the Champions League when Barcelona meet Liverpool.
The forward has faced the Reds twice before but is yet to breach their goal.
The first leg takes place at the Nou Camp, with the return leg at Anfield on May 7.
Here, Express Sport looks at Messi's scoring record against Premier League clubs.
CHELSEA
Appearances 10, Goals 3
It required Messi nine attempts to net against the Blues.
He was shut out in the last 16 in 2005/06, the following campaign’s two group games and the semi-finals in 2009 and 2012.
He pounced on Andreas Christensen's error last season in a 1-1 draw in the last 16 before scoring twice in a 3-0 win in the second leg.
ARSENAL
Appearances 6, Goals 9
Messi notched four goals against Arsene Wenger's Arsenal side in 2010, his greatest individual display against English opposition.
He scored a brace in the following season's last-16 clash as Barca won 4-3 on aggregate, while also netting three times in a 5-1 aggregate victory at the same stage in 2016.
MANCHESTER CITY
Appearances 6, Goals 6
Messi bagged a hat-trick in October 2016 on Pep Guardiola's return to the Nou Camp.
He also netted in the reverse group fixture, adding to goals he previously scored in both legs of Barca's last 16 win in the 2013/14 competition.
MANCHESTER UNITED
Appearances 6, Goals 4
Messi hit a brace earlier this month against United in the quarter-final second leg, having only previously scored twice in five appearances against the Red Devils.
But those goals proved valuable as they both came in finals - a 2009 header and a left-footed strike in 2011 - the latter being his first goal on English soil.

TOTTENHAM
Appearances 2, Goals 2
This season's competition was the first time Messi had faced Spurs after being drawn in Group B together.
He scored a brace in his side's win at Wembley.
LIVERPOOL
Appearances 2, Goals 0
Liverpool and Barcelona have not met since the last 16 of the 2006-07 competition, meaning Messi was still a teenager at the time.
He played the full duration of both legs but was kept quiet as the Reds won the tie on away goals.
