Leeds and Aston Villa players in stunning bust-up over controversial goal
LEEDS and Aston Villa players were involved in a brawl as tempers boiled over at Elland Road.
Both sets of players were involved in a huge scrap on the pitch after a controversial goal by Mateusz Klich.
Jonathan Kodjia was fouled and went down injured on the half-way line, with Leeds opting to play on while the Villa team called for the ball to be kicked out.
Leeds midfielder Tyler Roberts slowed down as if he was going stop but then fed Klich, who drove towards the box and curled a finish in at the far post.
Conor Hourihane immediately grabbed the goalscorer, sparking a melee between both sets of players which resulted in Ahmed El Ghazi being sent off.
The Dutch midfielder was given his marching orders for lashing out at Patrick Bamford, although contact appears minimal between the two players.
Bamford and Hourihane were cautioned for their roles in the bust-up, with several players being knocked to the floor in the ugly scenes.
The goal was allowed to stand but Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa demanded his side let Villa score an equaliser from kick-off.
Albert Adomah carried the ball forward, only for Pontus Jansson to try and tackle the Villa forward.
The furious centre-back was unable to stop Adomah from rolling the ball into the empty net as the rest of his team-mates looked on.
Following Klich’s goal, Villa manager Dean Smith and his assistant John Terry were understandably furious with Leeds after taking the lead.
The pair challenged the opposite dugout, with Bielsa then seen shouting “let them score” at his players.
The match ended 1-1 meaning Sheffield United are officially promoted to the Premier League.
