Cristiano Ronaldo 'wasn't happy' when Sir Alex Ferguson shouted at him at Man Utd - Vidic
CRISTIANO RONALDO took Sir Alex Ferguson’s shouting personally and emotionally when he first joined Manchester United.
That is according to club legend Nemanja Vidic, who has revealed that Ferguson changed his approach to Ronaldo to help the player’s career.
Cristiano Ronaldo joined Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 after he was spotted by Ferguson during a friendly fixture between the two clubs.
The Portugal captain remained at the club until he joined Real Madrid in 2009, after a fruitful relationship with the Scottish boss.
However, former club captain Vidic has revealed that there was a time when Ronaldo and Ferguson didn’t have a perfect relationship.
“I think Ronaldo wasn’t happy when he [Sir Alex] shouted at him,” Vidic told the League of Legends podcast.
“In the beginning it was one time he said something to Ronaldo, but he accepted it very emotionally
“He took it personally, but he was very young - he was 20-years-old.”
Former Serbia international Vidic spoke about the difficult relationship between the pair at first, and revealed how Ferguson stopped upsetting the young star.
He took it personally, but he was very young
He continued: “Of course you realise, even me, that next time you will not tell him [if he does something wrong].
“It’s better to not tell him because otherwise he will be too emotional and he won’t help you be better.”
Ronaldo scored 118 goals for United in all competitions and lifted three Premier League and one Champions League title.
The 34-year-old returned to Old Trafford with Juventus in the Champions League group stages this season, and praised fans for his reception earlier this year.
"Manchester? It was a great comeback, the Manchester fans have always welcomed me like when I played at Old Trafford,” Ronaldo told Portuguese outlet Record.
“Even the Santiago Bernabeu was my home for many years and will always be a very special stadium for me.
“I will always have a great affection for that club and those fans with great pleasure and I expect to be well received.”
