Gianluigi Buffon sends fans CRAZY after HORRIFIC mistake as PSG lose again
GIANLUIGI BUFFON produced a moment of madness on Wednesday night as Paris Saint-Germain fluffed yet another chance to secure the Ligue 1 title by losing 3-2 to Nantes.
PSG remain in pole position for the league title, as they are 17 points clear at the top of the table with just six games remaining.
However, they spurned their second chance to wrap up the title against Nantes, just days after an embarrassing 5-1 defeat to Lille.
The main talking point from the Nantes defeat, however, wasn’t the lack of firepower up front, rather an almost-catastrophic mistake by Buffon.
The Italian goalkeeper rushed out of his area to intercept a long through ball and nipped in ahead of Abdul Majeed Waris, before passing to Moussa Diary.
Then, Buffon appeared to forget he was so far out of goal, as he strolled towards the sideline instead of rushing back to his goal, leaving the net completely empty.
Things got worse for Buffon as Leandro Paredes’ wayward pass fell to Kalifa Coulibaly 35 yards out.
Luckily, Buffon’s blushes were spared as Coulibaly attempted a first-time shot which sailed just over the bar.
Fans took to Twitter to mock the 41-year-old, and even joked that PSG were trying to fix the match.
“And people want us to take this league seriously?” one fan wrote.
“Even he’s given up,” another posted.
One fan wrote: “He’s no sweeper keeper he should have retired years ago.”
“Buffon is drunk,” one fan claimed.
“He forgot that he’s playing as a goalkeeper for a few seconds,” another wrote.
PSG will have another chance on Sunday against Monaco, and could be benefitted by the return of Neymar from his foot injury.
The Brazilian winger has been out since January, but returned to training at the start of April.
