Gary Lineker jokes with Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle over health after Man City thriller
GARY LINEKER shared a joke with his former England team-mate Glenn Hoddle after Tottenham’s exhilarating Champions League win over Manchester City on Wednesday.
Tottenham: Harry Kane celebrates dramatic win over Man City
Tottenham lost 4-3 to Manchester City in the second leg of their quarter-final tie at the Etihad.
But Spurs went through on away goals after winning the first leg 1-0 last week.
VAR played a huge role in the second half, confirming Tottenham’s third goal was legal and ruling out a late City goal which would have taken the tie away from the London side.
And after the match, ex-Spurs striker Lineker joked light-heartedly with former Tottenham boss Hoddle over his recent health problems.
I think we know you’re okay Glenn having survived that 45 minutes
Hoddle suffered a heart attack in October 2018 and only returned to punditry in March.
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand said on BT Sport: “This VAR, my heart rate hasn’t been like this since I retired, it’s unbelievable the way it takes you up.”
Hoddle quickly responded: “Talking of heart rates Rio!”
And Lineker quipped: “It’s Glenn I’ve been worried about all night.

“I think we know you’re okay Glenn having survived that 45 minutes.”
And just before a commercial break, Lineker said to Hoddle: “I’ll tell you what let’s have a little breather.”
Tottenham will face Dutch side Ajax in the semi-final, the first time they have reached this stage of the Champions League.
And Hoddle was over the moon for his former side.
“Great character from Tottenham, great character from City as well,” he said.
“Even at the end there after the VAR you’re thinking ‘they’re going to score again’, amazing team.
“But credit to Tottenham, over the two legs I think they’ve deserved it, I really do.”
