Tottenham penalty takers: The 5 stars likely to step up in Champions League vs Man City
TOTTENHAM play Manchester City this evening in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie, with a penalty shootout a real possibility.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men currently lead the tie 1-0 on aggregate thanks to Son Heung-Min’s winner at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Tuesday.
With the tie so finely balanced, a penalty shootout could be on the cards if quadruple-chasing Manchester City win 1-0 at the Etihad.
Should the game go to penalties, Spurs won’t be able to call on the services of their main spot-kick taker Harry Kane, who is out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
So who will Tottenham call on to take their penalties tonight match go to a shootout? Here’s Express Sport’s list of possible penalty takers for the north Londoners:
Tottenham penalty takers - Christian Eriksen
The Dane is Tottenham’s set-piece specialist and arguably their most reliable player when it comes to penalties.
Should the match go past extra-time, expect the former Ajax man to take Spurs’ first spot kick.
Tottenham penalty takers - Son Heung-Min
Son has yet to take a penalty for Tottenham but will likely do so tonight given his fine form this season.
Tottenham Penalty Takers - Eric Dier
Eric Dier is no stranger to taking a penalty, having stepped up to the spot in England’s World Cup last-16 tie with Columba.
The former Sporting Lisbon man scored the crucial penalty to send Gareth Southgate’s side through to the quarter-finals, so he’ll more than likely be called upon to take a penalty this evening.
Tottenham Penalty Takers - Lucas Moura
The in-form Brazilian has taken a total of seven penalties in his career, all which found the back of the net.
Given his flawless record from the spot, he’ll almost certainly feature in the possible shootout.
Tottenham Penalty Takers - Dele Alli
England international Dele Alli has only taken two penalties in his career, both of which were successfully converted.
So given his immense confidence and habit of rising to the occasion, don’t be surprised to see the 23-year-old take a penalty tonight.
