Jurgen Klopp reveals selection headache ahead of important Chelsea clash
LIVERPOOL manager Jurgen Klopp has been handed a selection headache ahead of Chelsea’s visit to Anfield.
The Reds take on Chelsea at home later today in a game they need to win if they want to continue their hunt for the Premier League title.
With just five games to go, it’s imperative Klopp’s side don’t drop points, with title rivals Manchester City due to play Crystal Palace later today as well.
Liverpool have not had to deal with too many injuries this season but they’ve rotated their back four quite a bit due to problems that their centre-backs have picked up.
Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren have both spent time on the sidelines this season, with the former suffering a fractured leg.
Gomez made his return to the bench in Liverpool’s win over Porto in the Champions League in midweek, however.
Lovren made his first start in three months in the same game, taking the place of Joel Matip.
And ahead of Chelsea’s visit to Merseyside, Jurgen Klopp has spoken of a defensive dilemma he’s trying to overcome.
“We have to make sure he is 100 per cent fit,” he said.
“As long as the other boys are all fit and stuff like that, we can give Joe the time to train and maybe get some match practice in some other games.
“We will see how we can do that exactly, I’m not 100 per cent sure. But we will need Joe in the last part of the season.”
“We have a choice to make [in central defence].
“That means everybody needs to show in training or in the games what gives us the biggest opportunity or possibility to win the next game – that’s all what I think about.”
Liverpool are gunning for their first English league title in 29 years while their rivals City are looking to become the first side to retain the Premier League since Manchester United in 2008/09.
Andy Robertson is expected to come back into the side for Liverpool after sitting out the win over Porto through suspension.
