Man Utd star Marcus Rashford issues Wayne Rooney demand to snub Real Madrid and Barcelona
MANCHESTER UNITED star Marcus Rashford has demanded the same wages Wayne Rooney was on to stay at Old Trafford.
Man United: Luke Shaw discusses his 'confidence' in Rashford
Manchester United star Rashford is attracting interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window.
The England international has been a player reborn ever since Jose Mourinho’s sacking in December, flourishing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Manchester United want to extend Rashford’s contract, with the 21-year-old’s current contract expiring in 2020.
And the Mirror say the England international has demanded a huge £300,000-a-week to stay at the club.
Rashford wants the same money that Rooney was on prior to the Red Devils legend’s exit to Everton back in 2017.
That means he is now in line to earn a huge £15.8million each year.
And, with the contract primed to run until 2024, that means Rashford could now earn a huge £78m over the next few years.
The Mirror say the United youngster currently earns £80,000-a-week.
But it appears Real and Barcelona’s interest has forced the Red Devils to triple his salary in order to keep hold of him.
Rashford has scored 13 goals for United across all competitions this season with nine coming under Solskjaer.
He is the 46-year-old’s undisputed No 9 having recently leapfrogged Romelu Lukaku in the Old Trafford pecking order.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer recently urged Rashford to emulate the likes of Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes by being a one-club man.
“That’d be fantastic,” the Red Devils’ boss said when asked if the youngster could stay at the club until life.
“We have had a lot of legends at this club that have stayed so long and been one-club players and we hope Rashy is going to be one of them.
“It’s up to him and us, but if he keeps producing then he’ll stay in the team and then it’s up to him.”
Rashford has won three major trophies since making his United debut back in February 2016.
The teenager helped the Red Devils win the FA Cup that same year under the guidance of Louis van Gaal.
And, under Mourinho, he starred as United won the EFL Cup and Europa League crowns in 2017.
