Arsenal news: Jamie Redknapp reveals the Everton player who made a mockery of Gunners
IDRISSA GUEYE’s efforts in Everton’s win over Arsenal on Sunday have been hailed by Jamie Redknapp.
Marco Silva’s side ran out 1-0 winners of the Champions League-chasing Gunners at Goodison Park thanks to a first-half goal from Phil Jagielka.
The Toffee’s dominated midfield from the outset, hustling and harrying their north London opponents off the ball on several occasions.
Gueye was at the centre of everything good Everton did, bossing the game with his no-nonsense passing and tackling.
Like many others, Redknapp was impressed with the Senegal international’s display and was quick to hail him after the match.
"In midfield, I thought Everton were fantastic,” said Redknapp. “I want to talk about Idrissa Gueye.
“People talk about Fernandinho being the best, and I do believe that, but Gueye at the moment is as good as anybody.
"His all-round game is sensational.
"The energy he has and the way he senses danger all the time for his team, you need a player like this in your team.

“You need someone who senses it and gets into the right positions.
They are the things you need and what your team-mates respect so much.
"These are probably the things that go unnoticed to most people but it’s exactly what the Everton fans want to see.
“He didn’t stop all game and everything he did was excellent."
Redknapp was also full of praise for Jagielka, who was drafted in as a late replacement for the ill Michael Keane.
He said: “Phil Jagielka deserves a special mention because before the game I questioned how difficult it was going to be for him.
“He came into the team with 20 minutes to go and he wasn’t prepared correctly, but he was magnificent.
"It’s not easy playing against Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Aaron Ramsey but he showed every bit of experience in the game.
“There was perhaps one moment when he was caught on his heels in the first-half when Lacazette went past him but apart from that he was brilliant.
“It was a joy to watch his performance today. He showed all of his experience.”
Everton will next be in action on Saturday, travelling to Craven Cottage to take on the recently-relegated Fulham.
Arsenal, meanwhile, will look to get back to winning ways on Thursday afternoon when they welcome Napoli to the Emirates for the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie.
