Arsenal star Mesut Ozil THROWS jacket at Unai Emery during Everton clash
ARSENAL captain Mesut Ozil threw his jacket in the direction of Unai Emery eight minutes after being substituted as a touchline melee broke out during the side's loss at Everton on Sunday afternoon.
Ozil was given the captain's armband for Arsenal's trip to Goodison Park but was frustrated by the Toffees on a torrid afternoon for Unai Emery's men.
The German was substituted in the 74th minute after a poor performance, and had a face like thunder upon taking his seat on the bench.
The foul caused both sets of coaching staff to come together and, amid it all, Ozil bizarrely hurled his coat towards the unfolding coming together, with Emery in the line of fire.
In a fit of rage, the 30-year-old stood up and simply hurled his jacket towards both managers, before sitting down.
It did not hit either coach, with both Emery and Silva seemingly oblivious to the outburst.
Ozil sat down immediately afterwards but was caught by the TV cameras, looked on at the game helplessly as Emery fittingly came into the shot in front of him.
The playmaker's afternoon did not get any better as the Gunners failed to mount a comeback, missing an opportunity to grab hold of a top-four spot.
Arsenal: Unai Emery praises Ozil for ‘hard work’ this season
The Merseyside outing began badly when Phil Jagielka, who was only drafted into the Everton line-up 20 minutes before kick-off, poked home from close range.
Arsenal were unable to recover from the early setback and struggled to create chances despite Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Ozil all featuring.
Silva's side had copious chances to extend their lead but their profligacy in front of goal luckily did not hamper them.
Emery was not asked about the incident after the game and instead reflected on the performance, saying: "In the second half we needed a bit more from the game so I changed some things and we were better offensively.
"We need balance. In the first half we were good defensively but needed more offensively. In the second we were better offensively but not defensively. The match is demanding and the end result, we can't change that.
"We know we needed to be strong and solid, and to be competitive. After the negative result after the first half we changed things defensively and it gave us better options for 45 minutes but we could not find a goal.
"If we scored then it would have changed the match but defensively we conceded more chances than what we were doing first half."
