Mohamed Salah ruthlessly rinses Jordan Henderson after ending Liverpool goal drought
MOHAMED SALAH finally ended his goal drought for Liverpool this evening and quickly ensured attentions turned to Jordan Henderson's scoring struggles.
Liverpool’s main man found the back of the net for the first time in nine games in the Reds’ 3-1 win over Southampton.
Salah’s strike - his 50th league goal for the Merseysiders - put Jurgen Klopp’s men 2-1 up and saw them return to the summit of the Premier League, which they lead by two points.
Liverpool captain Henderson sealed the victory in the 86th minute with his first goal of the season.
Salah was over the moon to have got back on the scoresheet, so much so he mocked Henderson’s goal drought in his post-match interview.
I scored my first goal in nine games, he scores first goal in 20 games, 30 games
"I think that’s goal number 50 for Liverpool in the Premier League,” a delighted Salah said. “That’s special. After nine games [without scoring].
“So I’m very happy to score a goal to help the team. That’s the most important thing for us.
“And also, I scored my first goal in nine games, he [points to Henderson] scores [his] first goal in 20 games, 30 games. So I’m happy to score.”
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher was delighted with the result and the spirt his old side showed to grind out the three points.
"Massive result,” Carragher said. “This Liverpool team keeps getting questioned because no-one feels they're on the level of Man City and I can understand why.
“People question their nerve. This is a team that have the best away record in the Premier League. The last two away games have been level with 15 minutes to go. They've won 10 out of the last 11.
“They keep answering these questions all the time."
Liverpool will next be in action on Tuesday night when they face Napoli in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.
They’ll return to domestic action a week on Sunday, taking on Chelsea at Anfield.
