Man Utd news: ‘You’re not allowed to do that’ - Solskjaer slammed after doing THIS
MANCHESTER UNTIED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was wrong to use injuries and the international break as an excuse for his team’s below-par performance against Watford.
Man Utd vs Watford: Solskjaer slammed for 'making excuses'
That is the verdict of ESPN FC pundit and former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol.
Manchester United beat Watford 2-1 at Old Trafford but the Hornets will feel hard done by not to come away with a point.
After the game Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said it was clear his players were struggling due to a lack of preparation in the days leading up to the match.
"First 20 minutes we started so slow and sloppy and you could see we've had players out with injury,” the Norwegian said.
When you play for Manchester United or any of the big teams, that doesn’t come as an excuse. You’re not allowed to do that
“And the international break, we've not been able to train them that much.”
But Nicol does not think that is an excuse any United manager should be using.
“That sounds like 19 other teams in the Premier League,” Nicol said.
“Every single team is going through it.
“Listen, when you play for Manchester United or any of the big teams, that doesn’t come as an excuse.
“You’re not allowed to do that.
“You’re supposed to hold yourself to a higher standard, you have to perform to a certain level every time you step on the field.”
Former West Ham goalkeeper says Solskjaer must get used to having lots of players away on international duty.
Man United: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reacts to victory over Watford
“This is Manchester United, he doesn’t need me telling him that,” Hislop said.
“Manchester United, every single international break, have to cope with players being away.
“It’s part and parcel of managing a top club in any European league, especially if you’re Manchester United.
“That was the case for Sir Alex Ferguson when he was there, it’s nothing new or shouldn’t be anything new or novel for Solskjaer.”
