Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking at these FOUR signings - Andy Townsend
MANCHESTER UNITED manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will look to improve in four areas in the summer transfer market, claims Andy Townsend.
Man United: Solskjaer sends warning to ‘complacent’ players
Solskjaer was appointed permanent Manchester United manager last Thursday, signing a three-year deal.
The former Red Devils striker has confirmed money will be spent in the summer, but only wisely.
"United is a club that has money, and that has to be spent in a reasonable way," Solskjaer told Norwegian media.
"People who know me, know that I will use that in a good way.
If they want to be muscling back in with City and Liverpool and right up there, then they’re going to need to spend a significant amount of money
"We have a plan with the club, they have scouted players for longer than I have been here, and we have players that we need to keep.
"We will not spend money just to spend money."
Townsend reckons defence is an area Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will want to target, namely at right-back and centre-back.
The former Aston Villa midfielder also believes United will be looking for another midfielder and forward.
“I think he’s looking for a right-back, a centre-half, I think maybe another midfield player, potentially another striker or a wide man off one side,” Townsend told Premier League Productions.
“So look there is big money to be spent at United.
“If they want to be muscling back in with [Manchester] City and Liverpool and right up there, then they’re going to need to spend a significant amount of money.”
Townsend says Solskjaer can slightly alter his approach after being appointed the full-time manager.
Man United: 'I want us to lift trophies' says Solskjaer
“One thing he doesn’t have to do now is he doesn’t have to pander to people,” he continued.
“He’s gone in there and done his little bit of getting spirits lifted and making everybody feel good about themselves again.
“’Now I’m the boss, now I’ve got decisions to make, and whether you like them or you don’t, you’re going to have to live with them’.”
