Man Utd could lose David De Gea because of Alexis Sanchez - Ogden
MANCHESTER UNITED could be forced to sell David De Gea because of his increased wage demands, claims ESPN reporter Mark Ogden.
De Gea is out of contract at Manchester United in the summer of 2020.
The Spaniard, who has once again been linked with a move to Real Madrid, wants a big increase to his current wage.
Alexis Sanchez is the highest paid player at United, earning a reported £500,000-a-week.
Sanchez has struggled ever since joining the Red Devils though and his own future at the club looks bleak.
I think that could cause United to lose De Gea at the end of the day
Former Chelsea midfielder and ESPN FC pundit Craig Burley believes Sanchez’s wage will have caused a few issues in the United squad.
“I think it’s already caused some problems with new contracts for players,” Burley said.
“There’s a bit of a tug of war going on at the moment, I think De Gea’s involved in terms of contracts, maybe one or two others.
“All their contract demands will probably have been bumped up, not to that level, but a fair amount.”
In response, Ogden singled out De Gea as the biggest issue for Manchester United.
And he can see 28-year-old quitting Old Trafford because his demands will not be met.
“The big issue is David De Gea,” Ogden said.
“I think De Gea has seen that Sanchez is earning £500,000-a-week.
“De Gea knows how important he is and he his using that as a lever to get more money.
“And I think that could cause United to lose De Gea at the end of the day.
“I don’t think they will pay what they’re paying Sanchez.
“I think they have to roll back on that a little bit.”
