Arsenal hero Robert Pires reveals Stan Kroenke doubt, makes Liverpool and Man City claim
ARSENAL legend Robert Pires has revealed his doubts over whether Gunners owner Stan Kroenke will provide funds for this summer’s transfer window.
Arsenal: Emery can win Premier AND Europa League says Pires
Arsenal have had a good first season to date under head coach Unai Emery.
The Gunners are fourth in the Premier League and in the quarter-final of the Europa League.
Pires says the main objective for Arsenal at the start of each season is to win their domestic league, despite admitting how hard it is to do so.
He can see continued improvement under Emery next term to get better results against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
I don’t know if the owner if he wants to spend the money
However, Pires has questioned whether money will be available to invest where needed.
“For Arsenal, when they start the season, the first objective, believe me, the first objective, even for Unai Emery, is to try and win the Premier League,” Pires told ESPN.
“Of course it’s very difficult, it’s very tough because there’s not only one or two teams, there is six or seven that can win or lift the trophy.
“But they [Arsenal] try.
“I think for the next season, the most important [thing] is to build maybe the new team.
“I don’t know if the owner if he wants to spend the money.
“But Arsenal is a good team, a good club.
“So that’s why I think for the next season then can win the games against for example Liverpool or Manchester City.”
Pires also believes Emery has adapted well to his first season in English football.
“He’s a good manager, he’s put a good philosophy, good rules, good discipline in the dressing room,” the Frenchman added.
“He loves football, he’s passionate and the most important thing for him is he said ‘okay, I’m at Arsenal, I know how Arsenal play, they have a good philosophy’.
“That’s why sometimes Arsenal can play very well.”
