Arsenal news: Emery has ‘big issue’ because of Aubameyang and Lacazette - Clarke
ARSENAL boss Unai Emery must get the balance right in his team in order to play both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
Arsenal: Aubameyang and Lacazette is BEST system says pundit
That is according to football analyst and former Arsenal midfielder Adrian Clarke.
Emery has often started one of either Aubameyang and Lacazette this season and brought the other on from the bench.
However, the duo have had success when starting together, including in the 2-0 win over Manchester United earlier this month.
Clarke believes the pair perform better when they are both playing as the main strikers, rather than with one on the wing.
What happens behind those two? I think that’s the big issue for Arsenal at the moment
But he says the big issue for Emery is making sure the midfield can cope defensively with two central forwards in front of them.
“Well they love to combine, that is for sure,” Clarke said of Aubameyang and Lacazette on the John Dykes Show.
“But Aubameyang often starts out on the left but he’s not a natural wide man, he will want to join in.
“And I think Unai Emery wants Aubameyang and Lacazette to form a strike partnership ultimately.
“But it’s about finding the right balance in the team.
“I think on paper it’s the system [playing two strikers] that surely will work best for Arsenal moving forward, getting those two combined.
“They’re both selfless players, they love to produce combos.
“But, what happens behind those two? I think that’s the big issue for Arsenal at the moment.
“They have to get that balance right in midfield for him to have the confidence to play with a proper front two.”
Aubameyang is Arsenal's leading scorer this season having scored 22 goals in 39 games.
Lacazette has found the net 14 times in 38 matches for the Gunners this term.
