‘Are you surprised?’ - Souness reacts to what Everton hero Cahill says about Liverpool
LIVERPOOL legend Graeme Souness was not surprised by Everton legend Tim Cahill’s Premier League title prediction.
Souness and Cahill were working alongside each other as pundits for Sky Sports as Liverpool took on Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
Heading into the match Jurgen Klopp’s Reds were second in the table, one point behind leaders Manchester City.
Cahill was asked who he thinks will finish top of the pile come the end of the campaign.
And he is backing City to win it for a second successive year.
If I had to put my neck out there and say who I feel’s going to win it, I’d have to say Manchester City
“Obviously it’s very close,” Cahill said.
“It’s definitely going to come down to the wire.
“But if I had to put my neck out there and say who I feel’s going to win it, I’d have to say Manchester City.
“I’ve got a lot of respect for Jurgen Klopp, fantastic manager, what he’s done.
“They’re a hard team to beat and the players have been amazing.
“But I’d have to say City. I think they’ve got a great squad.
“They’ve had their wobble and they’re looking good.
“It’s the unknown [for Liverpool]. They’ve not really lost, they’re a hard team to beat in midfield.
“They’ve got goals in the frontline, defensively [Virgil] Van Dijk’s been on fire.
“When you put it on the line like that, I have to pick one, I’m not going to sit on the fence.
“But I feel Man City have everything in their armoury to win it.”
Presenter David Jones responded: “So an Evertonian thinks City.”
And Souness quipped: “Are you surprised?”
Cahill spent eight years at Everton, scoring 68 goals in 278 appearances.
Liverpool beat Fulham 2-1 to go back to the top of the Premier League.
