Arsenal hero reveals frustration at Unai Emery and urges him to copy Liverpool and Man Utd
ARSENAL legend Martin Keown has revealed one thing that has frustrated him about Unai Emery.
Arsenal: Emery not 'comfortable' with strikers says Campbell
Keown wants to see Emery pick both of his strikers more regularly in the starting XI.
Ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash against Rennes, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette had only been named alongside each other on 17 occasions this season.
The duo both started the match as the Gunners attempted to overcome the 3-1 deficit they suffered from the first leg.
Keown would prefer to see both Aubameyang and Lacazette start every match, copying the style of Liverpool and Manchester United.
These two have got tremendous pace. They love playing with one another, there’s almost a telepathic link up with them
Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford have regularly played alongside each other in recent weeks for United, with Liverpool's attacking players almost set in stone in their side.
“There’s an awful lot more possibilities when you’ve got two strikers,” Keown said on BT Sport.
“They occupy basically four defenders.
“Over the years, the last 10 years or so, that’s not been then case.
“These two have got tremendous pace. They love playing with one another, there’s almost a telepathic link up with them.
“They look for one another and they can finish when they get the opportunities.
“I’ve almost been frustrated.
“Emery has been a little bit reluctant to play these two together.
“If you look at [Mohamed] Salah and [Sadio] Mane, you look at Lukaku and Rashford, this is sort of in vogue now.
Arsenal have found the ideal front three says pundit
“Your twin strikers, inside left, inside right, lots of pace.
“It’s really difficult and a nightmare now for central defenders, you’ve got to be really at your game.
“There’s none of this business of one up to anymore.
“Two strikers, but two strikers who can play and these two can do that for Arsenal.”
Arsenal beat Rennes 3-0 to reach the Europa League quarter-final on Thursday.
