‘Only one of them can play’ - Phil Thompson tells Jurgen Klopp to drop key Liverpool star
LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp must change the makeup of his midfield for the visit of Burnley on Sunday.
That is according to Sky Sports pundit and legendary Liverpool defender Phil Thompson.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will be aiming to return to winning ways when Burnley travel to Anfield.
Liverpool have drawn three of their last five Premier League matches, losing top spot to Manchester City last weekend.
The Reds midfield has been questioned of late for not providing enough in terms of goals and assists.
You’ve got to change that, only one of them can play
And Thompson would leave out either captain Jordan Henderson or Fabinho against Burnley.
“I think the area now is going to be looked at,” Thompson said.
“You would imagine the front three are going to start.
“So it’s that area just in behind and what Jurgen Klopp is going to come up with.
“Henderson and Fabinho for me are too similar for a game like this at home.
“You’ve got to change that, only one of them can play.”
Xherdan Shaqiri has barely featured in recent weeks for Liverpool but Thompson reckons the Swiss international should start on Sunday.
“Is this a game for a Shaqiri?” he continued.
“It will tell us if he’s maybe not doing it in training.
“Normally I think he would start this sort of game.
“So I think it will be quite interesting that middle three, who he picks for those positions.”
