Brendan Rodgers REACTS to Watford offside goal - Did you see what Leicester boss did?
BRENDAN RODGERS’ reign as Leicester manager got off to an uncomfortable start at Watford as Troy Deeney gave the hosts an early lead today.
But Rodgers’ side may have been unlucky to go behind after replays suggest the goal was offside.
And Rodgers will certainly know about it after immediately checking the replay following Deeney’s header.
Deeney flicked on a free-kick past Kasper Schmeichel to fire the Hornets in front at Vicarage Road.
The goal came less than five minutes into the match and Rodgers looked concerned as he walked back from the touchline.
Yet the manager - who quit Celtic to join Leicester - was quick to then check the replay of the goal.
He was spotted watching the monitor next to his bench - and may not be happy with what he saw.
That’s because it appears as though Deeney was in an offside position as the free-kick was taken.
The striker had got in behind the Leicester defence and was quick enough to flick on the free-kick.
Former Wimbledon striker Efan Ekoku was summarising the match for 5 Live.
And he spotted the potential offside too.
"Brilliant header from Deeney and reward from a superb delivery but he looks offside!" he said.
At half time Ekoku added: “Leicester have been punished for not defending set pieces well enough, Watford look the more potent going forward and are comfortable with the 1-0 lead.”
Leicester got back into the game thanks to a Jamie Vardy strike on the counter.
But Deeney was there to sink the Foxes at the death as he capitalised on a defensive mistake to secure a 2-1 win for Watford.
“A self-inflicted wound from Leicester City,” Ekoku said when reviewing the winning goal.
“Wes Morgan missed a chance with a couple of minutes to go. Poor decision by Schmeichel and they have been punished.
“Leicester were on top in the second half, Watford will feel a little bit lucky.”
