Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp discusses Firmino's ankle injury
Roberto Firmino could be set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a sickening injury against Manchester United this weekend.
The Brazilian was forced off after half and hour during Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with the Red Devils, having gone over on his right ankle.
Footage showed Firmino landing awkwardly after making a pass, with his foot folding right underneath himself before he collapsed in pain.
The 27-year-old hobbled off the pitch under his own steam but was seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches and is a doubt for the clash with Watford on Wednesday.
Speaking immediately after the match, manager Jurgen Klopp said: “It is his ankle. First he said he could carry on, then that he couldn't.
“I don't know exactly the extent of the problem.
“Bobby said at first he could carry on but then he showed it didn’t work."
When asked about a time-frame for Firming’s recovery, Klopp said: “I don’t know exactly, it is Bobby, so it will be quicker than with all the others but first we have to know what it is exactly – and we don’t know at the moment.”
Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp reflects on Manchester United draw
Liverpool fans will be heartened by the fact Firmino attempted to carry on playing, with the crutches expected to be a precaution as opposed to an indication of a more serious injury.
However, pictures of the incident do not look pleasant and it is unsurprising the striker made way for Daniel Sturridge.
Firmino was the third of four players forced off injured during the first half at Old Trafford.
Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard were all substituted after suffering injuries, with Lingard having come on himself as a replacement for Mata.
