David Beckham spotted back in town - did Man Utd legend inspire INCREDIBLE goal?
DAVID BECKHAM was pictured at Salford City for the first time since becoming a co-owner of the National League club.
And the Manchester United legend appeared to inspire an incredible goal as Dennis Politic scored the opener at Moor Lane from all of 45 yards after only nine minutes.
The 18-year-old midfielder capitalised on a poor clearance from Dover Athletic goalkeeper Mitch Walker before a finish that Beckham would have been proud of.
It drew inevitable comparisons with the former England captain’s iconic effort for United against Wimbledon in 1996 when he lobbed Neil Sullivan from the half-way line.
The club said on Twitter: “WHAT A GOAL!!!!! It's a poor clearance from the keeper and Politic shoots from 45 yards and it goes in!!!!
Goal of the season contender!!!”
Their joy was short-lived though as Dan McNamara leveled for the visitors. And Dover went on to win the match 3-1.
Beckham, now 43, bought a 10 per cent stake in Salford as United’s Class of 92 became the majority shareholders.
He joined Gary and Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes as owners as well as businessman Peter Lim.
They are currently pushing for promotion to the Football League and Beckham said he was excited at the opportunity.
"It is a proud moment for me to join Peter and the Class of 92 lads as an owner of Salford City,” he said last month.
"It's a really special club and a special group of people.
"My early years in Manchester were all spent in Salford. I grew up there in many ways, so to be able to finally join the lads and the club today is a great feeling.
"Salford City has achieved so much success in a short space of time, the fans are incredible and I am really excited to be spending more time in Salford again."
Beckham, accompanied by son Romeo, was mobbed by fans before the match and has been doing the rounds in Manchester this week as he was spotted with United interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before their defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
"So good to be back in Manchester and so happy to see the boss,” he said on Instagram.
