Tottenham urged to sign 'world class' Zaha or risk title failure
TOTTENHAM should do their best to try and sign Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha - because the only way they can improve now is to sign world-class players.
That’s according to former Bayern Munich man Owen Hargreaves.
Zaha has been linked with a move to north London before, but a potential transfer never materialised.
The Ivorian did join Manchester United for a short spell, though, before he was sent back to Palace.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly a fan of Zaha’s and could end their transfer drought by signing him.
Spurs haven’t signed anyone since January 2018, a decision which his invited criticism of their business model.
But Hargreaves believes that, despite their shortcomings in the transfer market, Spurs have done well to find themselves second in the league.
“The fact they are second is a stunning achievement,” he said on BT Sport.
“It shows how good a job Pochettino is doing. Every player that steps in seems to do a job.
“Maybe the only way they are going to get better is with a genuine world-class player.
“He [Pochettino] only wants a player of high character. I think he wants people to fit in and not upset the balance.
“I would like to see Zaha at Tottenham.”
Tottenham have been short of attacking options lately, as they won’t have the services of Harry Kane or Dele Alli until March, who are out with ankle and hamstring problems respectively.
But despite their clear forward problems, Spurs decided not to sign anybody in the January transfer window.
Instead, Fernando Llorente has been brought into the starting line-up.
The Spaniard paid back the faith showed to him by Pochettino when he scored the winner against Watford in midweek.
Zaha, meanwhile, has scored four Premier League goals this season and has registered five assists.
