Man City team news vs Arsenal: Predicted line up – Mendy injury return, attacker dilemma
BENJAMIN MENDY is in contention to feature for Manchester City when they face Arsenal at the Etihad on Sunday (4.30pm).
Guardiola gives injury update on Mendy ahead of Arsenal clash
Manchester City could welcome Benjamin Mendy back to their starting XI when Arsenal visit the Etihad this weekend.
The French defender missed the recent clashes with Burnley and Newcastle after suffering swelling around his knee following surgery.
However, Mendy was in training on Friday and could be handed a start as City look to get back to winning ways.
Pep Guardiola’s side suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park on Tuesday, leaving them five points behind Liverpool after the Reds drew with Leicester.
The City boss revealed that every player expect Vincent Kompany took part in training, although he refused to be drawn on Mendy’s chances of featuring against the Gunners.
“Today, except Vinnie, the others have taken a training session,” he said.
“I don’t know [whether Mendy will be fit to face Arsenal]. After the minutes he played against Burton away, he had two or three days without training.
“In the last two training sessions, he was able to train and we will see day by day.”
Meanwhile, Ederson picked up a leg injury against the Magpies but will probably be risked due to City’s lack of goalkeeper depth.
Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus were all benched in midweek and will hope to feature on Sunday.
Guardiola could be tempted to rotate his squad with a clash with Everton looming on Wednesday, although David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho remain his first-choice midfielders.
Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane have been in fine form and are most likely to start out wide while Guardiola must choose between Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus in attack.
