Cahill has been earmarked but getting a deal over the line with Chelsea has proven difficult.
And reports in Italy claim Parma’s Bruno Alves is a far likelier deal as the transfer deadline draws near.

Chelsea could play a part in Joao Mario joining PSG today.
PSG want to sign Chelsea star Willian but the Blues are determined to keep the Brazilian.
So PSG are looking for alternative targets and Mario’s agent has supposedly offered up the player to the Ligue 1 club.
A move to Paris would almost definitely end PSG’s push to sign Willian, who is said to be valued at £35m.
11:50 UPDATE: Barcelona wanted Willian
More from UOL’s report in Brazil of Willian’s proposed move to PSG.
They claim Willian himself has rejected a proposal to join Barcelona.

Willian also snubbed a move to the Chinese Super League.
11:15 UPDATE: Willian entourage in Paris
Willian’s agent and entourage have arrived in Paris in case a deal between Chelsea and PSG is struck today.
PSG want to sign Willian but Chelsea are expected to demand a hefty fee to let the Brazilian go.
UOL claim a £35m bid will be enough for Chelsea to send the playmaker away from Stamford Bridge.
And Willian himself does not want to be stuck in a situation where he cannot sign for PSG after a bid is accepted, so the entourage is on standby in the French capital.
10:20 UPDATE: Latest from our Chelsea man Tony Banks…
Chelsea trio Danny Drinkwater, Gary Cahill and Willian are ALL likely to stay beyond tonight’s transfer deadline.
Express Sport understands the trio are set to stay put, but could be up for sale in the summer.
Cahill is out of contract and will leave on a free, while Drinkwater and Willian have been linked with moves.
PSG are said to be in for Willian today but Chelsea are unlikely to sanction a deadline deal.
09:45 UPDATE: Juventus in for Cahill
So why are Juventus in for Gary Cahill?
Well, Alfredo Pedulla claims it’s because they have a already failed to sign Andreas Christensen from Chelsea.
Juve are desperate for defensive recruits but are unwilling to spend big in this window.
That’s why a bargain swoop for Cahill and Parma veteran Bruno Alves are being lined up.
09:20 UPDATE: Cahill to Juventus
Gary Cahill could be set for a stunning deadline day transfer to Juventus.
Corriere dello Sport journalist Alfredo Pedulla claims Juventus are serious about a swoop for the Englishman.
Cahill is free to leave Chelsea today after falling out of manager Maurizio Sarri’s plans.
The report claims Juve are also pushing to sign Bruno Alves from Parma.
08:35 UPDATE: Willian to PSG latest
PSG have launched a very late bid to sign Willian from Chelsea.
The French club have been rocked by Neymar’s 10-week injury lay-off and want a stand-in attacker to aid their Champions League hopes.
A deal for Willian could be struck before the 11pm transfer deadline, but Chelsea would like demand a massive fee to let him go.
The Blues valued their winger at over £60m in the summer and Willian leaving midway through the season would require a further premium.
08:25 UPDATE: Abdoulaye Doucoure swoop
Chelsea are eyeing a deal for Watford star Abdoulaye Doucoure.
The Mirror reckon a last-mute agreement could be struck between the two Premier League clubs.
However, the Blues would have to fork out around £50m for Doucoure.
And that may mean them selling someone else before moving in for the playmaker.
