‘I heard about Tottenham as well’ - Jamie Redknapp on late Chelsea transfer target
ABDOULAYE DOUCOURE would easily have his head turned by potential moves to top Premier League clubs, claims former England midfielder Jamie Redknapp.
Watford: Abdoulaye Doucoure WILL stay argues Derek Payne
Watford midfielder Doucoure has made it clear this month it would be a dream for him to join Paris Saint-Germain.
However, it emerged early on transfer deadline day Chelsea were targeting the Frenchman.
The Hornets are not keen on letting Doucoure go this month though and manager Javi Gracia confirmed the 26-year-old is set to stay.
Redknapp can understand why Doucoure would want a move to the likes of Chelsea.
I heard about Tottenham as well maybe being mentioned for him
And he has heard one of his former clubs in Tottenham are also keen on his services.
“Of course your head will be turned,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports.
“He might look at it as his big opportunity as a player.
“This is no disrespect to Watford who have had a brilliant season.
“But these opportunities don’t come around very often.
“If Chelsea were to make a late bid for you, of course you’d want to take it.
“Financially to go and play for one of the best clubs, Champions League football, obviously not at Chelsea, but Champions League football would be a pull as well.
“I heard about Tottenham as well maybe being mentioned for him.
“He is a real talent, I really like him.
“It’s hard sometimes to turn down these moves when they come along.”
Doucoure has played 78 times for Watford since joining from Rennes in 2016.
He has found the back of the net on nine occasions.
