Wolves could ruin Chelsea transfer plan by refusing to play along - report
WOLVES could ruin Chelsea’s plans to offload Alvaro Morata onto Atletico Madrid, reports claim.
Chelsea are desperate to get rid of Morata now they have signed Gonzalo Higuain.
Manager Maurizio Sarri came to an agreement with director Marina Granovskaia over Chelsea’s transfer dealings.
Higuain would be signed from Juventus on loan, so long as Morata was shifted out of the side.
Chelsea have found a suitor in Atletico Madrid.
But they have to rejig their own squad before landing Morata on a permanent or loan basis.
That is according to Spanish newspaper Marca, who bring Wolves into the equation.
According to the report, Wolves’ on-loan defender Jonny may need to be sold to open up space for Morata’s arrival.
Forward Gelson Martins his already set to move to Monaco to make space for Morata - but his exit isn’t enough.
Marca claim Atletico may offer to sell Jonny to Wolves on a permanent basis.
That would free up more cash in Atletico’s wage budget.
The problem is that while Gelson’s move may be pushing along, Atletico are also struggling to offload Nikola Kalinic.
Selling Jonny now is the quick option and Atletico want Morata in soon.
The transfer window closes next Thursday and both clubs want the deal to go through.
Yet Wolves will have the final say over whether or not they want to sign Jonny permanently.
The 24-year-old has played 21 games this season and may get a run out against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup this weekend.
Jonny has never played for Atletico, having joined the club on a permanent basis from Celta Vigo last summer.
A day later he agreed his loan switch to Wolves.
