Cristiano Ronaldo penalty claim made by Chievo goalkeeper Sorrentino - 'I studied YouTube'
CRISTIANO RONALDO missed a penalty for Juventus in their 3-0 win over Chievo, and goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino claims he made the save after studying YouTube clips.
Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo has penalty saved against Chievo
The 39-year-old keeper insists he will savour the moment he saved a spot-kick from the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.
Sorrentino admits he will be keeping everything from the game, including his gloves, shorts and socks.
"Behind a penalty saved there is study, preparation and intuition,” Sorrentino said to Italian media Calciomercato.
“My father Roberto, goalkeeper in the 70s and 80s, had the black book of the rigorists.
I initially I was looking for the attackers on YouTube
“I initially I was looking for the attackers on YouTube, with Lorenzo Squizzi (former-goalkeeper).
“Before the competitions we watch the videos and together we decide the strategy, we were both sure that it would open the shot and that was it.
“My mother was at the stadium, my father was not.
“When he heard, he told me ‘good’ and for him it is a lot, because he does not make many compliments.
“Ronaldo kicked a fine penalty, I decided which way I would have dived, and I anticipated a fraction of a second.”
Sorrentino met Ronaldo in the tunnel at the Allianz Stadium after the final whistle and claims the Portuguese superstar congratulated him.
“After the clash, he passed me while I was saying goodbye to Dybala and he gave me five!” Sorrentino said.
Following their victory over Chievo, Juventus now have a nine point lead at the top of Serie A.
Last summer Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus in a deal worth £99.2million.
After 20 league games he has 14 goals and five assists.
Juventus have made it to the last 16 of the Champions League and will have to beat Atletico Madrid to progress.
And Sorrentino thinks Ronaldo can help the Juve win Europe’s elite competition.
“He is complete and physical,” Sorrentino said about Ronaldo.
“He can win the Champions League. I wish it to CR7."
